Matt grew up on the BBQ of Central Kansas. With a degree in Wood technology, he has a developed eye for precision and a respect for the ‘scratch-made’. He spent 10 years nurturing a serious bbq hobby and dreaming of bringing the highest quality of bbq to Seattle. It wasn’t just the hickory smoked perfection of Kansas BBQ he missed, but the community that gathers around it. In 2014 he brought craft bbq with a culture of family to Seattle.

James Barrington
Owner

James grew up in love with the city of Seattle and is always looking for ways to keep our culture fun and interesting. He is a huge fan of of street food and is the owner of Seattle’s first food truck, Hallava Falafel (June 2006). His roots are in Texas and he dreamed of bringing the culture of great bbq and community to Seattle. When James met Matt it was clear Seattle was about to get some really amazing bbq.

Michael Kramer
Food manager

Mike, known as Kramer , is a graduate of the western culinary institute and former owner of a mediterranean food truck. He has dialed in the kitchen and allowed Wood Shop to increase their production of perfectly smoked bbq. In addition to running our kitchen, Kramer is overseeing Oaky's Tex Mex.

Palani Stewart
Bar Manager

Palani is a 14 year industry veteran and a Seattle native who joined Wood Shop in 2017. He oversees the ever-growing Captain’s List, keeps our 8 draft lines running with great beer, and is always helping out with the overall operations of Wood Shop. Previously he was the GM of Spitfire and Great Nabob and is the winner of the 2010 Providence O’Christmas Trees Cocktail Contest. His favorite beers are Duchesse De Bourgogne, Bale Breaker Bottom Cutter, and Coors Light.

Ryan Beck
Truck Manager

Ryan is originally from Alaska and came to Seattle in 2010 to start his own grilled cheese truck. Ryan joined Wood Shop in 2017 to manager food truck operations and assist in the management of caterings. You’ll often see him on the truck or at the restaurant making sure the NHL game is on.
